Quick Start: How to care for your new Cactus with Self Watering Pot

Caring for your new San Pedro cactus is simple with just a few steps...

Check the water level.

San Pedro's love water, and their self-watering containers are here to help you.

No Water?

When the blue indicator is below the minimum it may be time to water! Be sure to check that the soil is completely dry first.

Add Water

Simply add a small amount of water until  the blue indicator meets the optimum level or "opt" as it is labeled.

Too Much?

Simply remove the inner pot from the outer and pour out the water as needed.

Place near Sunlight

Your San Pedro is just a step away from happiness. San Pedro cacti thrive in bright, indirect sunlight. Position your cactus in an area where it can receive several hours of sunlight each day. Ideally, place it near a south or southeast-facing window that allows for ample natural light. If your cactus is outdoors, choose a spot where it receives partial shade during the hottest part of the day to protect it from intense sunlight.

Keep a Journal

One of the most frustrating things about gardening is to lose a plant. Keeping track of the watering cycle of your cactus is key. Too much water can lead to rot, not enough will starve the plant. As you learn how often your plant goes through water in a wet/dry cycle you will be able to feed it regularly without fear of killing it.

A few extra notes on the Self-Watering Containers

Supplemental Watering: While the self-watering container provides a reservoir, it's still important to monitor the soil moisture. Depending on the climate, season, and environmental conditions, you may need to supplement the self-watering system with occasional manual watering. Check the soil moisture by inserting your finger about an inch deep into the soil; if it feels dry, it's time to water.

Maintain Air Circulation: Proper air circulation is important for the health of your San Pedro cactus. Make sure the self-watering container is placed in an area that allows for good airflow. Avoid positioning it in a closed or stagnant environment, as this can increase the risk of fungal or bacterial issues.

Adjust for Seasonal Changes: As seasons change, the water requirements of your San Pedro cactus may vary. Adjust the self-watering system accordingly, taking into account factors such as increased sunlight and temperature during the summer, which may cause the cactus to require more water.
